About Me
Meet Michelle: The Professional
I'm a copy editor and proofreader from the Pacific Northwest. I am a graduate of the MA in publishing and writing program at Emerson College and have had the chance to work on everything from short stories and web content to adult nonfiction and romance. I've worked in the publishing industry as staff and then as a freelancer for more than five years, and am very familiar with the publishing process. I am also a member of ACES.
Since creating Lippold Literary, I've worked with imprints at Penguin, Simon & Schuster, Candlewick Press, Shadow Mountain, and more. I'm always looking for books with vibrant characters, whether that's in fantasy, sci-fi, contemporary fiction, romance, or a nonfiction book exploring the amazing creatures that live in caves. I especially enjoy working with middle-grade fiction, YA fiction, and children's nonfiction.
As an editor, my duty is to the author's voice and the reader's experience—to make an enjoyable experience for a reader, without the distractions of typos or inconsistencies, while remaining true to the author's vision and voice. A common saying for copyeditors is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," and that's my philosophy as well.
I love the detail work of proofreading and being that safety net for an author to help catch typos that have slipped through the cracks and any formatting issues that could jolt the reader out of the story. I want your readers to stay immersed in your book's world! And having the cleanest book possible helps any reader focus on the story before them.

Meet Me: Off-Work
When I'm not working, I can usually be found spending time with my two dogs, dreaming up our next vacation, watching movies or rewatching Gilmore Girls for the zillionth time, playing the latest fantasy video game or relaxing in the Minecraft realm with my husband, or settling in to one of my favorite chairs with a mug of tea to read a book from my ever-expanding TBR list.
